How this works
Formula
GPA = (sum of compulsory GP + optional bonus above 2.0) ÷ number of compulsory subjects. Failing any compulsory subject → GPA 0.00.
Example
If all 5 compulsory subjects earn A+ (5.0) and the optional subject earns A+ (bonus 3.0), GPA = (25 + 3) ÷ 5 = 5.00 (capped at 5.0).
Grading policies differ by university, department, and academic year. Use your institution's official calculator or transcript office for anything that counts (transfer credit, scholarships, honors).
FAQ
How is HSC GPA calculated in Bangladesh?
Sum grade points of compulsory subjects, add grade points above 2.0 from the optional subject, then divide by the number of compulsory subjects.
What happens if I fail one subject?
Any F in a compulsory subject makes the final GPA 0.00, regardless of other grades.
Does the 4th (optional) subject count fully?
Only the portion of the grade point above 2.0 is added to the total, e.g. an A (4.0) contributes 2.0 bonus.
