Grading policies differ by university, department, and academic year. Use your institution's official calculator or transcript office for anything that counts (transfer credit, scholarships, honors).
How this works
Convert each letter grade to its grade point value (A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, and so on), multiply by the credit hours the course carries, sum those quality points, then divide by the total credits. This is a single-term GPA — add multiple terms with the cumulative GPA calculator.
Formula
GPA = Σ(letter grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(credits)
Example
A(3) + B+(4) + C(3) = 4.0×3 + 3.3×4 + 2.0×3 = 31.2 quality points ÷ 10 credits = 3.12 GPA
Terminology
- GPA
- Grade Point Average for a single term, computed from letter grades and credit hours.
- CGPA
