B.Tech Syllabus and Credit Structure
A typical AICTE-aligned B.Tech program is 160 to 170 credits across 8 semesters. Here is how credit distribution works.
Credits at Indian technical universities capture instructional load, not clock hours alone.
Credit rule of thumb
1 credit = 1 hour of lecture per week, or 2 hours of lab/tutorial per week, across a 15-week semester.
Distribution
Core = ~60%, Electives = ~20%, Labs/Projects = ~15%, Humanities and Open Electives = ~5%.
Minor and honours
Additional 18 to 20 credits for a Minor; Honours typically adds 20 credits of advanced electives.
