How middle school GPA differs from high school

Middle school GPA is almost always unweighted. Every class counts the same — there's no Honors (+0.5) or AP/IB (+1.0) bonus like you'll see in high school, and credit hours usually aren't tracked. That's why this calculator simply averages the grade points from each class.

Most middle schools use the standard US 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0, with pluses and minuses adjusting by 0.3.

Formula

GPA = Σ(letter grade points) ÷ number of classes

Example

A(4.0) + B+(3.3) + A−(3.7) + B(3.0) + A(4.0) = 18.0 ÷ 5 = 3.60

Terminology
