CGPA Calculator Malaysia — 4.0 Scale (Public & Private Universities)
Malaysian universities use a 4.0 CGPA scale. Enter each semester's GPA and credits to compute your cumulative score.
How this works
Malaysia uses the 4.0 scale. Add each semester's GPA and credits above; we credit-weight them to produce your cumulative GPA and an approximate percentage using the local conversion rule.
Formula
CGPA = Σ(GPA × Credits) ÷ Σ(Credits). Percentage ≈ CGPA × 25.
Example
(3.5×18) + (3.9×16) = 63.0 + 62.4 = 125.4. Total credits = 34. CGPA = 125.4 ÷ 34 ≈ 3.69.
Notes
- Common Malaysian grade mapping: A = 4.0, A- = 3.75, B+ = 3.5, B = 3.0.
- Dean's list typically requires a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- First-class honours is generally awarded at a CGPA of 3.67+.
Terminology
- SGPA
- Semester GPA — the same idea as GPA, using the semester-based terminology common in India / AICTE universities.
- CGPA
- Cumulative GPA — a credit-weighted average of every semester you've completed.
- GPA
- Grade Point Average for a single term, computed from letter grades and credit hours.
Grading policies differ by university, department, and academic year. Use your institution's official calculator or transcript office for anything that counts (transfer credit, scholarships, honors).
